Why this name?

Eridanus is a constellation in the southern hemisphere. It is represented as a river. It was one of the 48 constellations listed by the 2nd century astronomer Ptolemy, and it remains one of the 88 modern constellations. It is the sixth largest of the modern constellations.

Eridanus represents the historical use of rivers to connect people and our journey to a world full of stars. This justifies the choice of this name: the LIA is basically designed to connect Mexican and French astronomers!

It is also interesting to note that:

  • In the game Halo, Reach takes orbits around Epsilon Eridani.
  • In some maps of the Star Trek universe, the planet Vulcan is shown to be located at 40 Eridani A.
